The Edge of Love

I saw this movie for the first time about a year ago and thought it was an okay movie, but I was really impressed by the 1940's fashion ensembles that Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley wore. In the mix were floral knee length dresses, pleated skirts, ruffles, and adorable cardigans. However my favorite pieces of wardrobe were the lovely Wellies that the girls wore (the film was half shot in rainy Wales) with leg warmers peeking through at the calves. I don't know how accurate the fashion is (I don't think leg warmers were that cute in the 40's), but it worked, and it has me searching for a pair myself.

Year in Review - Part 4

As the summer 2010 ends, there is no look more celebrated than classic academic regalia. Its the only time you can wear a cardboard hat and tassels and not look like you crawled away from a sideshow. CONRATULATIONS Nezzo! Black acetate never looked so good!

Summer: The Maillot.

I love these and am so glad we saw their return in the last decade and that they are holding strong in this new one. Nothing is sexier than a little mystery and class. Whether it's structural & dressy like this "To-the-Nines" suit by Anthropologie or washed in abstract prints in the colors of summer, every woman looks beautiful in a one-piece.

Oxfords. We've both been drooling over these things since Fall but when Spring brought out little lacey leather ones in dusty pastel colors, our feet started feeling lonely for a pair.

The brown cuties were on Etsy and the blue booties were from Pour La Victoire. At the risk of fashion blasphemy, I have to confess that I'm just not into heels like most ladies, but these are too pretty to deny.

The year in review- Part 1

So we were a little distracted and haven't blogged. What is a blog good for but neglecting it anyway? So today I'm going to re-cap for the year with all the things that were added to and are still on my wardrobe wish list. Starting from winter & working our way up to this coming Fall.

WINTER: Colorful coats
I'm aiming to bring cheer to my winter blues with colors hot enough to melt ice. The cute little collars and retro buttons would make these my first choice in outerwear. Paired with tan leather gloves and a cozy winter cap - toasty! The Ruby one is by "Soft Wool Tapered Coat" by Tulle Coats and the other is the "Shearer Coat" in Manila Yellow by BB Dakota.

Scarves

Don't get me wrong, i love summer. The sunny, lazy, dazed, slow sweatiness of it all- but it's September now and I'm eager to wake up again to the electric crispness of a cloudless Fall morning. I can't wait for the first little nip in the air for an excuse to bust out my boots and SCARVES. There's no end to their variety, and unless you're shopping the designer counters, they're generally affordable and easy to collect.
I found this little gem on a pretty awful site that I'm almost embarrased to mention, but you can really scarves ANYWHERE, even the drug store sometimes, so I'll go ahead and tell you:
http://www.fashionscarvesandshawls.com/ (yegchh....)
but the color palette & zig zag pattern rocks. When selecting scarves, I go for bold graphic designs in colors that flatter my skin tone, and these days I like the square cuts with a little bit of fringe the best.
Come on cold front!!

White

White happens to be the color (or combination of all colors) that brings out one's natural beauty. One can wear little to no make-up while wearing white and still be a ray of sunshine. It is crisp and clean, and it has managed to remain pure for centuries (i.e. wedding dresses). White has always been a color that symbolizes innocence and tranquility, but that does not mean you have to behave so in order to wear it.
Too many people refrain from wearing white in fear of dirtying it or getting yellow pits (embarrassing, I know, but it happens to almost everyone), but there are so many solutions to these tiny, little nuisances. Really hot water helps the yellow, but it's not really good for your clothes, so I would suggest the Clorox Bleach Pen. It takes out every stain, and it's really easy to use...so have no fear because August is here, and what better way to end the summer than by wearing the coolest color.
The blouse above is from dELiAs , and I love it because it extracts the ideal characteristics of a white garment.
